The Home of Patti and The Powerful Grundys

Four months ago the nucleus of the group released a hilarious video song clip entitled 'Where's My Flamin' Parking Spot' which attracted more than two thousand views despite very little advertising.

Now Patti and her Grundys are releasing their latest song, 'Stop Horsing Around with Our Parking'! It is a fun filled song about a really dire situation.

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

There's not enough parking at the Island Transit Hub at Redland Bay (Weinum Creek) and to make matters worse, Redland Bay Council - through their investment arm, Redlands Investment Corporation (RIC). - have started works on turning the area into a shopping complex with apartment blocks being built on previous parking lots!

Investment means MONEY so the council is wanting to make money out of our transit hub when other transit hubs provide parking free of charge.

Council is issuing parking fines daily to any desperate islander they feel are parked illegally. Some islanders are forced to sleep in cars rather than get home due to the non availability of parking spots resulting in missing their ferries home.

WHY SHOULD MAINLAND PARKING BE AVAILABLE TO THE BAY ISLANDERS?

We Depend On It

The Bay Islands are dependent on the mainland for their survival as the facilities covered in their rates and taxes are not available on their islands.

We Pay Too

Islanders pay the same rates as mainland Redland Bay home owners to the Redland City Council.

We're Growing

Our 9,000 island population is expected to grow to 20,000 over the next few years as Redland City Council keeps approving new buildings here to earn ongoing rates.

We Need Essential Workers

Doctors, paramedics, police, teachers, builders, tradesmen and other essential workers need to be able to come to our islands. Currently they are finding it frustratingly difficult due to no parking near the ferry terminal.

We Get Isolated

Family and friends can't find a park and incur hefty fines causing isolation for our most vulnerable members.

One Million Ferry Passengers

One million ferry paying passengers embark and disembark at the Redland Bay transit hub known as Weinum Creek each year. That number is rapidly increasing. They need mainland transport which includes parking.

Buses Aren't For All

Many use buses, however, many can't. They don't go to all locations on top of being inaccessible to some (the sick and workrs needing to bring tools).

Fines Given, Protection Ignored

Cars in existing car parks are being vandalized, almost on a daily basis, and council is only responding to cars they feel are illegally parked.

More Shops, Less Parking

Redland Investment Corporation seeks to build shops which will bring more people to the area. Shops have to prioritise their customers and Island parking will vanish to shoppers.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

This is an islander's numbers game. The more islanders who speak up the more media is interested and, with their attention, the more can be done.

View and share the Parking For Bay Islanders song as many times as possible.
